Barbados Legal Requirments For Getting Married

Fortunately getting married in Barbados is a fairly straightforward process, for those seeking to become legally married.

The Legal Requirements For Getting Married In Barbados:

1. You must make arrangements with the marriage officer, priest or magistrate. They will supply you with a letter, which should be taken to the Ministry of Home Affairs, located at the General Post Office, Cheapside, Bridgetown. I would recommend arriving nice and early so that you don’t have queue up for too long.

2. If either partner is divorced, you must travel with an original Decree Absolute or a certified copy of the Final Judgment. Also in addition, if you are a widower, a certified copy of the death of your departed spouse, together with the marriage certificate must be produced.

3. A valid passport and birth certificate are also required.

4. A fee of BDS$200 is required for the marriage licence in addition to BDS$25 for stamp duty. A fee is also required for the magistrate or minister (which will be around BDS$150 – 250).

5. As you can see getting married in Barbados is a fairly straightforward process, and following these simple steps will ensure your wedding is a success. For further information, call the Ministry of Home Affairs at 228-8950, it’s opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 3.30pm.
