The Pirates Great Escape From Slavery At Carlisle Bay In Barbados
As I sat on the sands of Carlisle Bay relaxing and taking things easy looking out at the sailboats moored in the Bay, I pictured the famous Scottish Pirate Red Legs Greaves as he swam out to a ship to escape his slave masters in Barbados.
I thought about having a wee swim out to the sail boats to follow in the footsteps of Red Legs but It was too hot for me and I would have ran out of energy long before I reached the safety of one of the moored boats.
I contented myself with imaging his desperate escape bid as he sought his freedom on ship that was leaving Barbados and the beginning of a new highly profitable and successful career as a buccaneer in the Caribbean during the 1670’s. I will at some point be doing a article about the life and times of Red Legs Greaves, when I have completed my research.
Nowadays Carlisle Bay is a great beach for relaxing and taking things easy, either sunbathing or enjoying the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. The closest you will get to pirates are the beach hawkers, who are trying to sell you something.
