I Found Long Beach By Mistake

The sun was shining bright on Sunday and the call of the beach and the cool waters of the Caribbean Sea were calling me and demanding that I paid them a visit.

I drove over to the Silversands area of Barbados looking for a place known as Surfers Point, it sounded like an interesting location. I had never been before, but I had drove past a signpost for Surfers Point numerous times. I thought to myself that it couldn’t be too hard to find it, but this is Barbados and finding places is never easy.

I followed the signpost for Surfers Point, I had my wife and the kid keeping their eyes peeled for more signs, but no more appeared, maybe they blew away in the wind. What could I do but keep following the road until it came to an end.

I eventually came to a dead end and a car park, and of course there wasn’t a sign letting me know where I was, again maybe it had blown away in the wind, because there is a wee bit of breeze around these parts.

I consulted with my map and it seemed like we were at Long Beach, we found the steps leading down to the beach, when we noticed some water sports enthusiasts coming up them, it would have been nice if there had been signposts, but this is Barbados and they don’t need them here!

What can I say about Long Beach, well it is a magnificent beach, overĀ  1 mile of beautiful white sands and because it is a wee bit off the beaten track it is very rarely visited by locals or tourists. In fact during the 2 hours I was there, I spotted 9 people, a couple walking their dogs and the others were all kite surfers. Not a tourist in site, they really need to get out and take in more of what Barbados has to offer.

What I liked best about Long Beach was the rough and powerful waves, they were perfect for body surfing, I however mistimed a wave that I was about to body surf on and I ended up doing a complete somersault under the water, what a buzz that was. On my next visit to Long Beach I will come prepared with my boogie board, which is going to be amazing fun.

How many more amazing beaches have I still to discover here in Barbados, I don’t know, but I look forward to searching for them

My family used to spend time at the Long Beach Resort, but it has since be demolished. Any sign of re-build? Would love to visit again.

    Thank you

I didn’t notice any sign of any re-build when I was there, but you never know!
